Preface

Molecular Materials and Sensors for a Sustainable Future (M2SF 2026): Abstract Proceedings is prepared to accompany the seminar scheduled for 10–11 September 2026 at Rathinam Technical Campus, Coimbatore. The volume is intended to bring together research perspectives on molecular materials, sensing technologies, and their contributions to sustainable development.

The design and application of advanced materials offer opportunities to address challenges in environmental monitoring, resource conservation, energy use, and human well-being. Molecular approaches can help researchers understand and control material properties, while sensors translate physical, chemical, and biological changes into information that supports timely decisions.

The relationship between materials and sensing is particularly relevant to sustainability. A sensor’s usefulness depends on more than its sensitivity: selectivity, stability, affordability, power requirements, and performance under practical conditions also matter. Likewise, the development of a new material benefits from considering its production, durability, potential toxicity, and end-of-life management alongside its functional properties.

M2SF 2026 aims to provide a forum for researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to exchange ideas across these connected areas. This abstract proceedings volume is intended to support that exchange by presenting concise accounts of research objectives, approaches, findings, and potential applications.

We hope the seminar encourages constructive discussion, interdisciplinary collaboration, and further investigation into materials and technologies that respond to real environmental and societal needs. Abstracts provide an introduction to ongoing work; readers are encouraged to engage with contributing authors for detailed methods, supporting evidence, and subsequent publications.
